St Thomas More Catholic Primary School
Inspiration, Celebration and Education
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Following the flooding, we have had to have the ceiling tested to check that there is not any asbestos in the exposed area. We are expecting the results tomorrow and this will determine how quickly we can reopen the school. Sadly this means that school will remain closed tomorrow. Home Learning will continue to be placed on the Class Pages of our school website. We are doing everything that we can to get school open as soon as possible, but for Health & Safety reasons we have to remain closed until the problems can be rectified.
Packed lunches are available during the closure for every child registed for Free School Meals. You will have been contacted if your child is eligible. Lunches can be collected from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm every day.
Unfortunately school will remain closed tomorrow following the flooding yesterday, as we still have no water supply and limited electricity. Please see your Class Pages for home learning. We are doing everything that we can to get school open as soon as possible, but for Health & Safety reasons we have to remain closed until the problems can be rectified.
Due to a severe flood inside the school, we have had no option but to close the school. Messages will be sent out on Class Dojo and home learning for every class has been placed on the school website.
We apologise for the inconvenience but as we have no water or electricty we have no option for the safety and welfare of both pupils and staff.
The next Move More Webinar will take place on Wednesday the 6th of March at 1pm. This session will cover Tantrums, Meltdowns and Shutdowns.
Marijana will be talking about differences between these three, what is typical for primary aged children and ways of responding to them. More information is included in the flyer attached to this email.
As always, parents and carers will need to register for this event. Here is the registration link:

Spring Half Term is from Monday 12th February to Friday 16th February. We look forward to seeing the pupils back on Monday 19th February.
Our pupils had some very informative sessions on Safer Internet Day learning about Social Media Usage, Online Gaming and the warning signs to look out for with Online Grooming.
We then had a session for parents about understanding what their children are doing online and the functions available on the apps and games they use. They discussed questions about their child's internet use including:
Can they chat with others?
Can they connect with people they don't know?
What kind of content can they be exposed to?
What are the age ratings of the games and apps they use?
What setting are available to limit risk and encourage a more positive environment?
They also set up some Action Steps for Parents & Children to work together including:
If we all (school / parents / carers) work together, we can create a safer online environment for our children. Please use the following links for further resources:

Dear Parents,
Please note that our Little Way partnership have decided to have an extra training day on Monday 3rd June 2024. This extra staff Inset has been placed at the start of Term 6 which means that the Summer half-term has been slightly extended for pupils. Pupils will return to school after the half-term on Tuesday 4th June.
Thank you.
Dear Key Stage 2 Parents and Carers,
We have been offered an exciting opportunity for our Key Stage 2 children to be involved in a community event over Easter 2024. The Parish of West Cheltenham in collaboration with other local churches and schools, including All Saints Academy, Dean Close, Hester’s Way Baptist and St Thomas More Catholic churches, is producing a Community Passion Play. The event will take place on Good Friday 29th March 2024.
This will be an outdoor roving performance retelling the events of the last week of Jesus’ life leading up to Easter and will be take place at key sites around Hester’s Way, starting in Hesters Way Park and ending at St Aidan’s site on Coronation Square (see www.westcheltpassionplay.or.uk for more details).
There will be a combined school’s choir performing some original songs during the production and we would love our school to be represented. The play’s Musical Director, Ruth Mulligan, will be holding a choir workshop in school during school time to teach the songs to any children who would like to be involved. The various school groups will then gather together in early March to practise singing the songs together.
If your child would like to take part the full commitment includes:
As this production will take place in the school holidays without the presence of staff, you will need to accompany your child to rehearsals outside of school and at the event itself and be responsible for them throughout (or nominate a responsible adult to do so).
On the performance day, the children will sing at the start of the play and at the end. In between times they can join the audience and enjoy the performance. As an optional extra the children are invited to sing at the Celebration of Resurrection on Sunday 31st March 2pm at St Aidan’s to which all the audience will be invited to see the next scene of the story unfold.
If you would like your child to take part in the Community Passion Play, please can you send back the permission slip by next Friday 26th January 2024.
