Timings of the School Day

School Routines and Hours

Before school:

  • 8.40 am – Gates open and staff welcome children as they enter school
  • All teachers greet and gather their classes from their classroom doors
  • The register is taken at 8.55 am and this is the official start to the school day.  All children should be in their classroom and ready to learn at this point
  • Pupils arriving between 8.55 am and 9.10 am will be recorded as 'Late'
  • Pupils arriving after 9.10 am will be recorded as having a U Code ('Late arrival after registration has closed')

Morning classroom routine:

  • Attendance and lunchtime registers completed
  • Morning prayers
  • Water bottles. Children bring in a fresh water bottle every day and can refill bottles during the school day, if needed

Breaktime:

  • Children go out to play with a healthy snack at 10.15 am – 10.30am
  • At the end of breaktime the children must be collected from their lines
  • Children enter the school calmly and safely, ready for lessons

Lunchtime:

  • Prayers before lunch
  • Lunchtime for all children is from 12.00 pm - 1.00 pm
  • Classes have allocated eating times in the main school hall
  • If the weather is fit for the children to be outside (and they will be outside if at all possible, whilst safe to do so, to enjoy the positive benefits of free play, fresh air and exercise), they can choose from a range of OPAL activities which run on the playground and/or field
  • In wet weather, the children remain under supervision in their classrooms, where there are a variety of activities for the children to select, including board games, colouring, reading, Lego, chess etc.

Afternoon classroom routine:

  • Afternoon register
  • 1.10 pm – Collective Worship (as per school schedule)
  • End of the day prayers
  • 3.15 pm EYFS–6 children are collected from allocated exits in the school playground

End of Day:

At the end of the school day, children may only leave the school premises without an adult if they have handed in a letter signed by a parent, giving them permission to do so.  We discourage this for children in school years lower than Year 6.

Children should be collected by a parent or another person who has been given permission to do so by someone who holds parental responsibility for that child.  This is the case unless there is a court order prohibiting a specific person from collecting a child – in this case, the Headteacher should be notified as soon as the order is in place.  The school office should be made aware of any collection arrangements that are different to usual so that the class teacher can be informed.

The official school week is made up of 32.5hrs at school.
