What Your Child Will Learn

At St Thomas More Catholic Primary School, our work is underpinned by Gospel values which we believe provides our pupils with the best possible academic and moral grounding and preparation for the life ahead of them.  We want to provide your child with every opportunity to develop socially, intellectually, physically, morally and spiritually whilst they are in our care.

We encourage every child to achieve their full potential, placing an emphasis on the development of an enquiring mind, fostering a thirst for knowledge as well as a thorough grounding in English and Maths.

Our syllabus follows the 2014 National Curriculum. The 2014 National Curriculum was introduced to Y1, 3, 4 and 5 pupils in September 2014. Y2 and Y6 pupils began following it in September 2015.The curriculum has “Programmes of Study” that pupils in each year group are expected to follow. The skills and knowledge should be thoroughly learned, so that pupils have a secure knowledge of it by the end of each year.

Where possible, subjects are taught through a themed approach. Each year group learns about an exciting theme each term to teach and where it is not possible to teach through a themed approach, lessons are taught discreetly.

Curriculum maps are sent home by class teachers for each new theme and can be found HERE
